NASA founded Singularity University once again launches its Global Impact Competition in East-Central Europe and Turkey. This year the prize worth of $25.000 doubles, since two scholarships to the Summer Program of the NASA-based university will go to the best projects. Innovators from the CEE region and also Turkey may apply with projects aiming to improve the lives of at least one million people in their region.
Singularity University’s Global Impact Competition aims to find innovations, which will help to improve the lives of many with the use of exponentially developing technologies. The university brings its competition to the region for the second time. While in the first competition, organizers received more than 50 applications from the CEE region, they expect more than 200 in the second one. Innovators from Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Poland, Slovenia, Slovakia, Turkey and Ukraine will compete for the two scholarship to one of the most sought after tech-innovation organizations of the world. The winner of the competition will take part in the University’s graduate program this summer. Each prize, worth $25.000, will cover all costs of the program, which include: courses, lodging and meals.
“I am very pleased to see that the first competition made such a great impression, that we have followers now: Other competitions, very similar to ours, have been organized since then. I hope such competitions will help to spread innovation and entrepreurship in our region” - said Csaba Szabó, founder of SU Global Impact Competition CEE&Turkey.
This competition’s – SU Global Impact Competition CEE&Turkey 2013 - application process will vary from that of the first one. Applications are welcome on the competition’s website: www.sucee.eu, from the 1st of December until the 15th of February and will be received in two rounds. Each round will be evaluated and shortlisted separately. Those shortlisted will have the chance to work on the implementation of their projects. The finalists will be chosen in March, so organizers encourage applicants to apply in the first round to have more time for the implementation phase.
Finalists will present their ideas, on the Global Impact CEE&Turkey Conference, in front of Salim Ismail, former deputy-CEO of Yahoo and a selected jury composed from regional executives of major corporations. The conference will take place in Budapest, Hungary in mid-April 2013.
Singularity University, established by the think-tanks of the Silicon Valley, is located in NASA Research Center in California. The University is a central destination for scientists, researchers, entrepreneurs and government officials, who want to learn about the latest innovations, exponentially developing technologies and trends like; 3D printing, alternative transportation (e.g. Tesla car) or even space technologies.
Those who meet the tough entrance requirements take part in an extremely intensive training, which includes demanding courses, trips to the biggest enterprises – e.g. Facebook, NASA, Google, Cisco - and visits to the most exciting garage-companies, as well as start-ups in the area. During the courses, students work side-by-side with the biggest names of the Valley.
