Juhász, Márton (Hungary): GyroSet
The movement of people paralyzed from the neck down is extremely difficult and pricey. The only affordable wheelchair controller on the market is a mouth operated joystick, which blocks the vision of the user. GyroSet is designed to solve this problem: it makes navigation possible by using a sensor that produces data in correlation with the head’s position. Its embedded system is able to learn and recognize gestures. In an ideal setup - in addition to Gyroset - a tablet is attached to the wheelchair and the user is able to take all the advantages of a 3G/4G enabled smartphone. Using GPS - maps and public transport timetables - means more freedom. Their communication widens: it can incorporate telephony, short messaging, email, social media, web, remote controlling electronic devices and speech synthesis.

Aleksandra Orchowska (Poland): Cukeriada
Diabetes is a complicated disease, which requires constant care. It is crucial to understand how everyday activities like sports or stress, influence blood sugar levels and how this can be controlled. Type 1 diabetes often starts at early age, which means that even a 5-year-old has to know how to inject insulin and measure blood sugar level without the help of their parents.
Cukeriada’s aim is to playfully educate children with diabetes how to cope with their disease. It consists of two elements: a mobile application and a toy. The app provides information about diabetes, its symptoms and self-care through a virtual world where he/she has to take care of a virtual character, who has diabetes. The toy is the embodiment of the virtual character, thus connected to the mobile app, the children can ’treat’ the ’patient’. Taking care of the character, the user can collect points and compete with other players.

Agata Alina Kakitek (Poland): The Foodbox
Foodbox’s core idea is to provide people suffering from hunger with food from private households, that are running out of their expiration date and would otherwise be thrown out. It operates through a smartphone app, that monitors expiration dates of food in the households and informs people in need about available food placed in foodboxes - cooled lockers, conveniently located throughout the city. The application gathers and manages all information about the expiration date of products in fridges and cupboards, thus when the date is near it warns the ’donor’, so that she is able to donate the product to the closest foodbox.

Artas Bartas (Lithuania): Bribespot
The aim of Bribespot is to fight petty corruption we face in our everyday lives, be it in the doctor’s office, in the local kindergarten, a government office or on the way home stopped by the police. Bribespot consists of a website and a mobile app, which allows people to report anonymously their encounters with corrupt officials. Reports are plotted on an interactive map, which makes it possible to see patterns of bribery in the city or a region, thus fighting it would become much easier.

Katja Spur (Slovenia): Internet of Bodies
The Internet of Bodies is a complex system, which uses existing sensors, tools and applications, which track our health data – e.g. sugar level, heart rate or blood pressure - and our environment’s conditions, such as the air’s pollen level or the temperature. The system provides us with a complex picture about us and our environment condition, thus interactions between them may become more obvious, and prevention of certain diseases can be performed in an earlier stage.

Lucie Bresova (Czech Republic): GINA - Geographic Information Assistant
GINA is an emergency response management system. It combines existing software and hardware technologies into a new communication and information management tool that speeds up disaster relief action. Until now, emergency response team management has often been based on low-tech solutions such as paper maps, transmitters and voice communication. Gina uses a combined platform, that includes voice, time, visual information, geographic data, multimedia and text, all in one comprehensive piece of information. It provides rescue teams with an off-the-shelve sturdy handheld GPS terminal that connects everyone in the field and also the headquarters in real-time. GINA has already helped rescue actions in crisis situations across the globe, such as in Haiti or Japan.

Piotr Podzimeski (Poland): Medical Timeline
Medical Timeline is an idea of a network service in which people can store your medical data in a form of a timeline and can be made accessible by their doctors. It can be simply accessed by mobile apps or a web page. Date can be entered by manual input, tagged photos (ex. of ECG, USG, XRAY) or directly from a gadget connected to the user’s tablet or mobile (like pulse, temperature or blood pressure measurement). The flow of information in the system provides a better understanding of the user’s health condition and interconnection of the otherwise non-linked data.

Sandro Mur (Croatia): BabyHome
Although medicine and prenatal care have advanced substantially in the last 23 years, number of neonatal deaths has increased by 17% worldwide. BabyHome is an eco-system that redefines prenatal monitoring from the comfort of your home with 24/7 surveillance of your physician using affordable devices and exponential technologies. BabyHome gathers all relevant data about the baby’s condition, which enables women to track their pregnancy and fetal development at home in real time. Thus, the mother can react to the data quickly should the need arise, and seek consultation with a physician. A family doctor can access the patient’s data through a web application at any time. This helps the doctor to closely monitor the pregnancy, suggest preventive measurements and react to irregularities.

Sergey Angelov Petrov (Bulgaria): Smart Beehives
Project Smart Beehives seeks solution to a recently arising problem: the sharp decline of the honeybee population. Honebees have vital role in the ecosystem and agriculture: they pollinate plant species that make up a large portion of the crops we consume. Project Smart Beehives uses a monitoring system to detect dangerous amounts of certain hazardous pesticides and prevent further contamination of the beehives by shutting them down remotely and taking immediate actions like food substitution for the bee colony until the source of the problem is found or the contamination period of the pesticide has passed. The system is powered by solar panels mounted on top of the construction and thus is self-sustained.

Stanimir Gantchev (Bulgaria): AquilaSat 3
All geostationary satellites are required to commit to moving to a graveyard orbit in the end of their operational life, this is a risky challenge for them and many fail. AquilaSat 3 is a spacecraft, which is designed for safe removal of space debris: it deorbits the debris by speeding it down and letting it go. Also, AquilaSat 3 can be used for safely towing inactive satellites to a space station for service, overhaul or inspection.

Dmytro Butov (Ukraine): TB immunotherapy
After AIDS, tuberculosis is the second most important cause of death from an infectious agent. Current TB drugs are not effective, particularly against multidrug-resistant tuberculosis and tuberculosis with HIV. TB immunotherapy is a revolutionary treatment, which consists of a patented extract of medicinal plants and its delivery agent: a dried-honey lozenge. By introducing this inexpensive and effective immunotherapeutic intervention, the project offers solution to a big global health problem: tuberculosis.
